The Wilson Area School Board is debating whether to buy land near the intermediate school in Wilson Borough.<\/p>\n
The purchase was listed on the Monday, Dec. 15, school board meeting agenda<\/a> as \u201cBalata Street property discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n Superintendent Harrison Bailey III said the district is looking for maintenance and storage space. That parcel\u2019s proximity to the intermediate school makes it a good fit, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cNo decisions have been made at this time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He said the land would most likely be multi-use, including but not limited to maintenance facilities. <\/p>\n He didn\u2019t have the address of the parcel.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a one-acre parcel at 1350 Balata St. that\u2019s immediately adjacent to the intermediate school baseball field. It\u2019s listed for sale<\/a> at $1.2 million. The single-acre parcel includes a 12,000-square-foot warehouse.<\/p>\n The intermediate school is at 2400 Firmstone St.<\/p>\n The district is undergoing a $40 million improvement<\/a> to its high school stadium, a plan that calls for a new high school gym, classrooms and technology labs. That plan underwent a review Tuesday, Dec. 16, by the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission agenda, the existing Wilson Area High School stadium and auxiliary building would be demolished, as well as an existing parking lot in northeast corner of the lot which contains the site\u2019s stormwater infrastructure. <\/p>\n The new auxiliary building will maintain the existing catwalk that spans South 22nd Street, connecting Wilson Area High School to the new facility. It will be placed on top of the old parking lot.
