As 2025 comes to a close, a new high school girls basketball event will debut in Erie, combining athletic competition with a meaningful cause. The inaugural Shoot for a Cure tournament, hosted by Iroquois High School and sponsored by the Hamot Health Foundation (HHF), will spotlight regional talent while raising funds for local pediatric cancer research.<\/p>\n
The two-day event will feature four teams from northwest Pennsylvania Clarion Area, Iroquois (Erie) as a host school, Rocky Grove in Franklin, and Saegertown.<\/p>\n
Games will be held at the Thomas C. Barringer Gymnasium, 4301 Main Street, Erie, PA, on Monday, Dec. 29 starting at 6:00 p.m. with Clarion Area vs. Saegertown and at 7:30 p.m. featuring Iroquois vs. Rocky Grove<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Dec. 30 there will be a Consolation Game at 6:00 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. Championship Game.<\/p>\n
One admission price covers both games for the day: Adults $4, students and seniors $2.<\/p>\n
All proceeds will benefit HHF\u2019s Children\u2019s Care Fund, which supports improved care and outcomes for pediatric cancer patients.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur mission is to host a top-tier basketball tournament featuring female athletes and raise at least $1,000 for the Children\u2019s Care Fund,\u201d said Michael Kujawinski, Iroquois High School athletic director.<\/p>\n
Shawn Bednard, HHF development coordinator, added: \u201cTwo major focuses of Hamot Health Foundation in 2025 have been pediatrics and cancer care. Shoot for a Cure is a perfect match for advancing these efforts while supporting local student-athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tournament is open to the public, and members of the media are invited to attend, meet organizers, and learn more about how this event benefits youth in the Erie community.<\/p>\n
