WEST READING, Pa. – A doorbell camera video is shedding some light on a wreck involving a Wyomissing Police vehicle and another car.<\/p>\n
The crash happened early Sunday morning at the busy intersection of South 5th Avenue and Chestnut Street in West Reading.<\/p>\n
“There was an accident this weekend involving a Wyomissing Police car. It’s not uncommon for police officers to be involved in accidents. Their job is very stressful,” said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.<\/p>\n
Adams says this isn’t the first time something like this has happened, and investigators are looking into the details.<\/p>\n
“The early investigation has revealed that, most likely, the car, the police car, had a green light, went through the green light, and, unfortunately, was involved in a mishap,” explained Adams.<\/p>\n
Adams says certain investigative and police protocols are involved with incidents like this.<\/p>\n
“I’m rather certain the West Reading Police Department will be doing the accident reconstruction and accident investigation, and that’s the best way to do it, because we want an independent agency,” he explained.<\/p>\n
Adams says police officers are putting their lives at risk every day while doing their job.<\/p>\n
“It’s a tough job, and I give our police officers all the credit in the world,” Adams added. “They do get some advanced training being a patrol officer.
