The Bake Your Heart Out crew boards a plane.<\/p>\n

Diane: On the road again!<\/p>\n

Sam: Why do you look so happy?<\/p>\n

Diane: I love being together.<\/p>\n

Sam: Garry\u2019s here.<\/p>\n

Diane: Yes?<\/p>\n

Sam: How could anyone want to deal with him?<\/p>\n

Garry: I\u2019m right here!<\/p>\n

Sam: I\u2019m aware. I\u2019m not two-faced. I tell it like it is.<\/p>\n

Leslie: Sam, we\u2019re flying on our way to film a Christmas special. Can you at least try to not be such a grinch?<\/p>\n

Sam: I\u2019m not a grinch! I just don\u2019t want to leave my house in sunny California to fly to\u2026 wherever two weeks before Christmas!<\/p>\n

Leslie: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

Sam: I don\u2019t even know where that is!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Leslie: The Christmas city! Or, so I\u2019ve been told. I\u2019ve never heard of it, either. We just tried to find a Christmas-sounding place to film the special in. It looks nice.<\/p>\n

Frances: I think I had a layover there once.<\/p>\n

Leslie: They don\u2019t have an airport, so that would be difficult.<\/p>\n

Sam: Then where in the hell are we flying into now?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Allentown.<\/p>\n

Garry: I love that Billy Joel song.<\/p>\n

Leslie: I think it is actually the city Billy Joel\u2019s singing about, now that you mention it.<\/p>\n

Frances: How far away is it from this Bethlehem place?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Really close. We\u2019ll be to the hotel in a flash.<\/p>\n

Sam: Good. And that city better be absolutely decked out for Christmas to justify making us fly all the way out here so close to the holidays.<\/p>\n

Leslie: I feel like you\u2019re blaming me for a decision that was really Paul\u2019s. I\u2019d have been fine just shooting the special in a studio in LA, but he wanted to continue with the show being a cross-country exploration of American desserts, so here we are.<\/p>\n

Diane: Pennsylvania is very Christmassy. They do sing about a man heading here for some homemade pumpkin pie in There\u2019s No Place Like Home for the Holidays.<\/p>\n

Sam: Well surely no other state has ever been mentioned in a Christmas song.<\/p>\n

Diane: Did I say that?<\/p>\n

Garry: I think we should\u2019ve filmed the special in Hollis, Queens. Christmas in Hollis is my favorite Christmas song.<\/p>\n

Melanie: Christmas in Hollis is your favorite Christmas song?<\/p>\n

Garry: Yes, is that so hard to believe?<\/p>\n

Melanie: Given than you\u2019re the whitest person I\u2019ve ever met, I didn\u2019t expect a Run-D.M.C. song to be your favorite. I was expecting something by, say, the Carpenters or Michael Buble or Bing Crosby.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: What\u2019s the matter with Bing Crosby? He\u2019s no Cliff Richard, but –<\/p>\n

Sam: Cliff Richard?<\/p>\n

Charlotte: Mistletoe and wine is an absolute holiday classic! And what\u2019s your favorite holiday song, if you\u2019re going to be son judgmental?<\/p>\n

Sam: Melanie\u2019s the one who started it.<\/p>\n

Melanie: I\u2019ll tell you my favorite, hands down – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). The Darlene Love original.<\/p>\n

Diane: She\u2019s my Queen of Christmas, no disrespect to Mariah Carey intended whatsoever.<\/p>\n

Sam: My favorite is\u2026 I think it\u2019s unfair to demand I tell you all.<\/p>\n

Nicolle: I know what it is.<\/p>\n

Sam: You shouldn\u2019t. Don\u2019t give in to bullying and peer pressure.<\/p>\n

Leslie: She\u2019s crapping her pants over here over this. How bad is it?<\/p>\n

Nicolle: It\u2019s the Chipmunk Song.<\/p>\n

Frances: Alvin and the freakin\u2019 Chipmunks is your favorite Christmas song?<\/p>\n

Sam: Hey, at least it\u2019s not Dominick the Donkey!<\/p>\n

Frances: It might as well be!<\/p>\n

Sam: Come on, leave the Chipmunks alone!<\/p>\n

Frances: My favorite is Step Into Christmas by Elton John, for anyone curious.<\/p>\n

Sam: I can\u2019t mock that. Elton is a friend.<\/p>\n

Frances: And you didn\u2019t even try to get him on Celebrity Bake Your Heart Out?<\/p>\n

Sam: I won\u2019t abuse my friendship in such a way. It\u2019s not a true friendship if you try to use it for your own personal gain.<\/p>\n

Frances: I use Garry for my own personal gain.<\/p>\n

Sam: I\u2019m sure you do!<\/p>\n

Frances: Not like that! Get your mind out of the gutter!<\/p>\n

Sam: I don\u2019t think I will!<\/p>\n

Leslie: Ah, would you look at that, a call from Paul. It tears me to pieces to have to walk away from this heartwarming conversation.<\/p>\n

Diane: Your phone\u2019s not ringing.<\/p>\n

Leslie: Narc!<\/p>\n

Several hours later\u2026<\/p>\n

Leslie: Oh, we\u2019re finally here! How exciting?<\/p>\n

Sam: Just as I always say: nothing as exciting as Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

Nicolle: I\u2019ve always quite enjoyed Pennsylvania. Good people, good food, good culture. Heading to Philadelphia was a nice day trip I\u2019d take sometimes during my years in NYC.<\/p>\n

Sam: You never took me to Philadelphia!<\/p>\n

Nicolle: Yeah, we tended to visit more exotic locales on the occasions where we\u2019d get to spend time together.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: That sounds perfectly reasonable, I can\u2019t wait to hear how Sam takes issue with it.<\/p>\n

Sam: Are you implying that I complain a lot?<\/p>\n

Charlotte: No, I\u2019m saying it.<\/p>\n

Sam: Fair enough.<\/p>\n

Diane: Let\u2019s get off this plan! I can\u2019t wait to see this winter wonderland!<\/p>\n

Garry: Yeah, I\u2019m excited for a white Christmas. Well, a white two weeks before Christmas. It\u2019s never cold and snowy back home in California.<\/p>\n

Sam: I looked out the window, it doesn\u2019t look snowy out there.<\/p>\n

Garry: Well, surely it at least feels like Christmas is supposed to feel. Much more than Beverly Hills.<\/p>\n

Frances: I think Beverly Hills is quite Christmassy. They put up some lovely Christmas decor on Rodeo Drive.<\/p>\n

Garry: But it\u2019s also seventy degrees outside. I can go outside without a sweater. At night!<\/p>\n

Frances: Some people just insist on complaining about everything! It\u2019s Christmas!<\/p>\n

Garry: I\u2019m aware, that\u2019s why I\u2019m grateful to be in the Christmas City! What\u2019s it called again, Leslie?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Bethlehem!<\/p>\n

Garry: And how did they stake their claim on being the \u201cChristmas City?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sam: Have you ever read the story of the Nativity, Garry?<\/p>\n

Garry: Of course I have! Jesus is the reason of the season, I have a sweater that says that!<\/p>\n

Sam: And where was Jesus born?<\/p>\n

Garry: Oh, right!<\/p>\n

Charlotte: He was born in Pennsylvania?<\/p>\n

Leslie: No, they named this city after the location of Christ\u2019s birth. Hence, the Christmas City.<\/p>\n

Diane: Great, we now know why a town called \u201cBethlehem\u201d is associated with Christmas. Can we please get off the plane now? I need a peppermint mocha or something, the plane ride has made my Christmas spirit dwindle.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: I blame it on Ebenezer over there.<\/p>\n

Sam: I know you\u2019re referring to me, and I don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

The group steps off the plane.<\/p>\n

Sam: I told you it wasn\u2019t snowy.<\/p>\n

Melanie: I don\u2019t think this is quite the winter wonderland we were promised.<\/p>\n

Leslie: I never promised jack squat! I said we\u2019d come here and there would probably be Christmas lights and we\u2019d film our special and we could go home. That was all I promised. I never said it would be cold, you all just assumed.<\/p>\n

Frances: I mean, it is Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

Carly: I feel like I\u2019m having a heat stroke.<\/p>\n

Sam: That\u2019s probably the stupid matching Christmas sweater your husband made you wear.<\/p>\n

Carly: I picked it out myself!<\/p>\n

Sam: Wow, you two are a better match than I thought.<\/p>\n

Garry: Thank you!<\/p>\n

Sam: It wasn\u2019t a compliment.<\/p>\n

Diane: Did we make a wrong turn and end up in Florida?<\/p>\n

Sam: I don\u2019t think so. I\u2019d be breaking into hives if we were in Florida.<\/p>\n

Garry: I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m about to say this, but I think I need to take my festive sweater off.<\/p>\n

Frances: Oh, you know it\u2019s bad when Garry\u2019s saying that.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: It feels like summer to me.<\/p>\n

Sam: Well, you\u2019re British. You guys melt whenever it\u2019s above sixty-five.<\/p>\n

Leslie: Al Roker did not properly prepare me for a Christmas heat wave. Though, in fairness, I don\u2019t make it a habit to check the weather reports for Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

Melanie: I don\u2019t know why you guys are complaining. I\u2019ve had my fair share of cold Christmases in Rhode Island. This is great for me.<\/p>\n

Diane: I think the rest of us were just hoping, since we were heading to a cooler climate, that we\u2019d get to experience a more traditional Christmas. You know, snow and hot cocoa and bundled up tight by the fire. We\u2019ll make the best of it, though. We always do!<\/p>\n

Sam: Do we? We usually just end up bickering.<\/p>\n

Diane: I\u2019m trying to be optimistic.<\/p>\n

Garry: Maybe it\u2019s warmer in Bethlehem!<\/p>\n

Sam: You think driving ten minutes down the road will make it drop thirty degrees and fill our hearts with the holiday spirit?<\/p>\n

Garry: You never know!<\/p>\n

Leslie: Let\u2019s just grab our bags and get to the hotel. Maybe the city itself will still be decorated enough to get us into the spirit anyway, despite being seventy degrees outside for some reason.<\/p>\n

One hour later\u2026<\/p>\n

Diane: The town is very pretty. I will give them that.<\/p>\n

Sam: It\u2019s less Christmassy than I thought.<\/p>\n

Frances: I\u2019m sure you were gutted that the speakers weren\u2019t blasting out The Chipmunk Song.<\/p>\n

Sam: I told you all that in confidence.<\/p>\n

Frances: Nicolle told us.<\/p>\n

Sam: I might have to consult with divorce lawyers.<\/p>\n

Garry: You should never feel ashamed of the things that bring you true joy.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: Oh my god, it gets worse. Garry just defended you!<\/p>\n

Diane: I think we need to give the little town of Bethlehem a chance. It\u2019s not night out yet, I\u2019m sure the lights will be beautiful.<\/p>\n

Sam: Yes, we can walk the streets to see them while wearing flip-lops and Hawaiian shirts.<\/p>\n

Frances: Mele Kalikimaka!<\/p>\n

Leslie: We should just go check in so we can get settled. I think I need to go find a Kohl\u2019s, too. I packed winter wear, I need a darn t-shirt.<\/p>\n

Diane: I think we can wear long sleeves and sweaters! It\u2019s not that hot out.<\/p>\n

Frances: Garry looks like he\u2019s about to die. He\u2019s like one of those reindeer at a Christmas village in the south. Sickly and overheated.<\/p>\n

Sam: In that case\u2026<\/p>\n

Nicolle: Sam! It\u2019s Christmas!<\/p>\n

Sam: And that would be a fantastic Christmas gift for me.<\/p>\n

Garry: It\u2019s okay, I know she doesn\u2019t mean it.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: Yeah, who would she have to viciously mock if Garry were dead?<\/p>\n

Sam: Oh, that\u2019s easy. Frances.<\/p>\n

Frances: Keeping Garry alive is our top priority this Christmas!<\/p>\n

Later that day, Leslie is on the phone with Paul.<\/p>\n

Paul: So, settling in okay in the Lehigh Valley? Is the holiday spirit of the Christmas City infecting your crew?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Not exactly\u2026 Paul, it feels like hell here.<\/p>\n

Paul: You don\u2019t like it?<\/p>\n

Leslie: No, I have nothing against the city, we\u2019ve spent almost no time here at all. It\u2019s just incredibly warm out. Like I said when we were discussing filming locations, I was really hoping we could go somewhere snowy that really felt like Christmas. This is\u2026not quite that.<\/p>\n

Paul: Hey, it could be worse. I could\u2019ve sent Jacqueline with you. I considered it.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline: Your coffee, sir.<\/p>\n

Paul: Thank you, Jack.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline: I really prefer –<\/p>\n

Paul: That\u2019ll be all.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline: Very well.<\/p>\n

Paul: Unfortunately, Jacqueline is preoccupied here in LA. Very busy.<\/p>\n

Leslie: Are you still torturing her by making her your \u201cspecial assistant?\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul: Perhaps.<\/p>\n

Leslie: You\u2019re definitely getting visited by a series of ghosts on the 24th.<\/p>\n

Paul: You sound to be in the Christmas spirit to me!<\/p>\n

Leslie: More so than you, but I don\u2019t think you business types ever really feel the Christmas spirit, if every Christmas movie ever made is at all accurate.<\/p>\n

Paul: I love the holiday very much. Almost as much as I love money. Now, are you guys all going to be okay in Bethlehem? Or shall I book a visit to Alaska?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Could. You do that?<\/p>\n

Paul: To be honest, I wasn\u2019t really expecting you to take that seriously. I guess I could see I there\u2019s anywhere to film in North Pole, Alaska.<\/p>\n

Leslie: No, we\u2019ll make do here. Christmas is about fear more than just snow and cold weather. Heck, that\u2019s how Christmas is every year back at home.<\/p>\n

Paul: That\u2019s the spirit! Now, I you excuse me, I havre to get back to work, but I\u2019ll make sure to dream of a White Christmas for all of you tonight.<\/p>\n

Leslie: I appreciate that, Paul. Be specific, though: we\u2019re only here the next four days. A white December 9th through 12th would be preferable.<\/p>\n

Later that night\u2026<\/p>\n

Diane: You know what? This town is quite charming at night.<\/p>\n

Frances: Yeah, the horses pulling the carriages look a lot happier now that it\u2019s only about 58 outside.<\/p>\n

Garry: I don\u2019t like horse-drawn carriages. It\u2019s animal abuse.<\/p>\n

Sam: That is the most Garry thing i\u2019ve ever heard.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: I actually agree with him this time. I saw them in New Orleans once. Have you ever walked in New Orleans in August? I almost died, and I don\u2019t have fur, nor was I hauling a carriage.<\/p>\n

Frances: Anyway, moving one from the animal abuse, I agree that the town does look beautiful. Wonderful lights, Christmas displays in the park, wreaths on every door and street light. It\u2019s like a Hallmark movie, minus the fake snow and cheesy plot lines that are all the same.<\/p>\n

Nicolle: I told you all everything would be fine!<\/p>\n

Leslie: Plus, you know, even if the city wasn\u2019t as Christmas as it advertised itself as, the studio itself will be decorated with plenty of decorations and fake snow. We had no need to complain.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: We never do, but yet\u2026<\/p>\n

Melanie: It\u2019s part of your charm. You\u2019re lovable whiners.<\/p>\n

Garry: Also, isn\u2019t the real importance of Christmas spending time with the people you love? We\u2019re doing that, so I don\u2019t know why we were so concerned about the weather, anyway.<\/p>\n

Sam: You\u2019re going to make me puke.<\/p>\n

The next morning\u2026<\/p>\n

Diane: Sam! Get up!<\/p>\n

Sam: What? Is it seven already?<\/p>\n

Diane: Yes, but that\u2019s not why I woke you up. I woke up and I sort of forgot where I was, so I looked out the window, and\u2026 see for yourself!<\/p>\n

Sam: Oh my god. How did that happen?<\/p>\n

Diane: I don\u2019t know, but it looks like Christmas! It\u2019s a miracle.<\/p>\n

Sam: Ugh, don\u2019t get all cheesy on me.<\/p>\n

Diane: It was seventy degrees outside yesterday and now the ground is covered in snow. Is that not miraculous to you?<\/p>\n

Sam: The fact that I don\u2019t have to shovel it is pretty miraculous to me, at least.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a knock at the door. Diane answers it.<\/p>\n

Frances: Did you see –<\/p>\n

Diane: Yes!<\/p>\n

Leslie: Is it not a Christmas miracle?<\/p>\n

Charlotte: We weren\u2019t aware it was going to be seventy degrees out yesterday, so for all we know, this was also forecast. Who\u2019s to say?<\/p>\n

Leslie: Paul said he was going to dream of a white Christmas for us. I choose to believe this is a sign from God about the magic of the holidays.<\/p>\n

Sam: Oh no, she\u2019s getting all Jesusy about it.<\/p>\n

Leslie: How can one not?<\/p>\n

Sam: Well, same of us are sane.<\/p>\n

Leslie: The entire holiday only exists because of Christ.<\/p>\n

Sam: And I think that\u2019s wonderful. I also just think he has enough on his hands right now that he\u2019s not making it snow in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the sake of a few spoiler millionaire TV personalities.<\/p>\n

Charlotte: I\u2019m an Oscar winner!<\/p>\n

Sam: We\u2019re well aware. In fact, all I want for Christmas is to go a day without you reminding me of it.<\/p>\n

Diane: Are we going to be able to get to the studio today? It\u2019s so snowy out.<\/p>\n

Frances: God, you California types are so funny. I\u2019m from Michigan, this is nothing! We\u2019ll be fine. Just a nice holiday dusting to get us in the spirit.<\/p>\n

Sam: And as soon as we see Garry, we\u2019ll be straight out of the spirit all over again.<\/p>\n

Diane: You should probably lighten up on him. It\u2019s Christmas, after all.<\/p>\n

Sam: And not bashing Garry would absolutely ruin my holiday!<\/p>\n
