Lackawanna County<\/a> on Monday, all to try and find a man hiding in the woods near Old Forge Junior Senior High School.<\/p>\nThe police identified the man they were looking for as Dakota Michael Lederer. They believe he shot an arrow into the back of a relative on Wyalusing Street.<\/p>\n
Police said the wounded man is hospitalized in stable condition. Lederer, meanwhile, fled to the nearby woods.<\/p>\n
A helicopter and drone used their cameras to look for heat signatures in the woods. Cruisers stood guard along the treeline, spotlights scanning the shadows.<\/p>\n
“We have multiple police departments throughout Lackawanna County here,” said Old Forge Police Chief Jason Dubernas Multiple k9 units, we had assistance from the city of Scranton with their drone unit. We had (the state police) with their aviation unit.”<\/p>\n
The search caused a lockdown at the nearby Old Forge Junior-Senior High School, where student-athletes were in the gym practicing basketball.<\/p>\n
Parents told Newswatch 16 they received a message just before 6 p.m. that the building was locked down and to stay away for the time being. The lockdown lifted after an hour.<\/p>\n
“Once everything, the vicinity was secured, checked by officers, K-9 teams, and the aviation units. Officers stood by as parents picked up the student athletes,” Dubernas said.<\/p>\n
Then, shortly after 8 p.m., roughly three hours after the search began, the state police helicopter spotted him in the woods off Oak Street.<\/p>\n
Before long, Lederer was in handcuffs.<\/p>\n
Dubernas said they were working with the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office on a charging decision.<\/p>\n
