{"id":68275,"date":"2025-12-23T06:16:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T06:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/68275\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T06:16:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T06:16:13","slug":"carrick-community-holds-vigil-for-high-school-senior-hit-killed-by-vehicle-wpxi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/68275\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrick community holds vigil for high school senior hit, killed by vehicle \u2013 WPXI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">PITTSBURGH \u2014 Community members from Pittsburgh\u2019s Carrick neighborhood held a vigil on Sunday for a high school senior who was killed in a crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">PREVIOUS COVERAGE &gt;&gt;&gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/child-hit-by-car-pittsburghs-carrick-neighborhood\/33J33SXURBHEDH4XUQ5TXOSSE4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/child-hit-by-car-pittsburghs-carrick-neighborhood\/33J33SXURBHEDH4XUQ5TXOSSE4\/\">17-year-old girl hit, killed by car in Pittsburgh\u2019s Carrick neighborhood<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">17-year-old Ishara Kami was walking home from school along Brownsville Road when she was hit by a truck on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Several people tried to help Kami after the crash, including nursing student Ireland Schuck, who happened to be nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cI pulled over right over there, I ran out and I came up, and they were like, \u2018She was hit, she was hit,\u2019\u201d Schuck recalled. \u201cSo I just remember putting my stuff on the floor and just going to assess her and everything, and just started CPR basically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/https:\/\/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com\/cmg\/TLZ22RD4AFARFJOJJK2NRQZWJA.jpeg\" width=\"1440\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1htor29-0 jibCgM image-metadata\">Ishara Kami <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Around 30 people were part of the vigil along Brownsville Road. A small memorial was set up, with flowers and candles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">According to police, the truck began sliding and hit a pole before striking Kami.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The truck\u2019s driver reportedly remained at the scene.
