HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN CO. (WOLF) \u2014 More than $4.6 million in state transportation funding will be invested in infrastructure and safety projects across parts of Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, according to State Senator Marty Flynn.<\/p>\n
Flynn, the minority chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, announced the funding following a statewide award release by the Shapiro Administration. The money comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, a PennDOT-administered program that supports locally owned transportation projects.<\/p>\n
Officials say the majority of the funding \u2014 more than $4.3 million \u2014 will be used for bridge replacement projects in Lackawanna County. An additional $241,000 will support pedestrian and safety improvements in Luzerne County.<\/p>\n
Governor Josh Shapiro announced more than $47 million in multimodal grants statewide, supporting 54 transportation projects across 34 counties. The investments are aimed at improving safety, boosting economic development, and improving connectivity in local communities.<\/p>\n
Flynn said the funding reflects a continued focus on directing transportation dollars to projects with direct local impact, noting collaboration between PennDOT and the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Lackawanna CountyCity of Scranton: $1.39 million to replace the Ash Street BridgeClifton Township: $3 million to replace the bridge on Plank RoadLuzerne CountyAvoca Borough: $241,076 for sidewalk, crosswalk, and signage upgrades along McAlpine Street<\/p>\n
The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports a wide range of projects, including roads, bridges, pedestrian infrastructure, and other transportation improvements designed to enhance mobility and support local economies.<\/p>\n
