WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014\u00a0Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., recently made stops across northwest Pennsylvania, pitching energy,\u00a0manufacturing\u00a0and shipbuilding as major opportunities for the region \u2014 especially in Erie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
From Erie County to Crawford to Mercer, McCormick spent the day listening, touring and\u00a0talking\u00a0jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was great because you can hear what\u2019s working, what are their questions,\u201d McCormick said. \u201cAnd the bottom line I tried to describe is that the president\u2019s policies have made a big difference.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
McCormick said those conversations come at a time when the economy is stabilizing, but pressure on working families\u00a0remains.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe\u00a0economy\u2019s\u00a0better.\u00a0Inflation\u2019s\u00a0down, it\u2019s about half what it was during Biden, and wages are up about 4% a year,\u201d McCormick said. \u201cBut there are still lots of challenges.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The freshman senator points to health care, housing and energy costs as top concerns and said Pennsylvania\u2019s energy strength could be part of the solution.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPennsylvania is an energy powerhouse,\u00a0second-largest energy producer in the world,\u201d McCormick said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
That includes northwest Pennsylvania, where Titusville launched the oil\u00a0industry\u00a0and massive natural gas reserves now power data centers and\u00a0new technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhich is key for these big data centers, too, and this AI development, which is controversial, but it offers huge economic opportunity,\u201d said McCormick.<\/p>\n
McCormick also highlighted advanced manufacturing, with more\u00a0companies\u00a0reshoring production back to Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPharma companies are reshoring, bringing advanced production back here,\u201d McCormick said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And for Erie, one opportunity stands out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also see a big focus on shipbuilding,\u201d McCormick said. \u201cWhich is particularly relevant to Erie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
From Donjon Shipyard on Lake Erie to billions in new investment statewide, McCormick said momentum is building.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the kinds of opportunities that I think just in the last year have materialized,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
McCormick said he plans to continue meeting directly with communities across the state as Erie positions itself for growth in energy,\u00a0manufacturing\u00a0and shipbuilding.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014\u00a0Sen.
