{"id":70092,"date":"2025-12-25T03:42:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-25T03:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/70092\/"},"modified":"2025-12-25T03:42:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T03:42:15","slug":"puc-hearings-on-water-rate-hikes-set-in-scranton-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/70092\/","title":{"rendered":"PUC hearings on water-rate hikes set in Scranton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The state Public Utility Commission has scheduled a series of eight in-person hearings \u2014 including two in Scranton \u2014 on Pennsylvania American Water Co.\u2019s proposed rate increases.<\/p>\n<p>The hearings in the city \u2014 the only ones in Northeast Pennsylvania \u2014 are scheduled for Jan. 15 at 1 and 6 p.m. at the University of Scranton\u2019s Brennan Hall, fifth floor, 320 Madison Ave. PUC Administrative Law Judges Jeffrey A. Watson and Emily DeVoe will preside.<\/p>\n<p>The PUC voted Dec. 4 to suspend and investigate the proposed changes by PAWC, which serves some 682,000 water customers and 97,000 wastewater customers in 37 counties across the state. Pennsylvania American proposes an overall increase of $168.7 million (about 14.6%) in total annual operating revenues for water and wastewater service.<\/p>\n<p>A final PUC decision on the rate increase request is due by Aug. 13.<\/p>\n<p>Preregistration is not required to attend the hearings.
