Black Scranton Project Center for Arts & Culture at 1902 N. Main Ave in Scranton will celebrate Day Two of Kwanzaa on Saturday, with music and activities throughout the evening.<\/p>\n
The celebration entitled \u201cKwanzaa Kujichagulia\u201d is centered around self-determination and taking control of one\u2019s destiny, according to Phil Johns of Black Scranton.<\/p>\n
Kwanzaa has become a nationally recognized celebration of African culture and community in the United States since its founding in 1966.<\/p>\n
The holiday, which serves as a nationwide communal event reinforcing self-determination and unity in the face of oppression, spans seven days from the day after Christmas through New Year\u2019s Day, with each day having a different theme.<\/p>\n
The event, open to all ages, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and all are welcome. An open mic will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and all are encouraged to sing a song, share a poem or generally share throughs.<\/p>\n
Entertainment begins at 7:45 p.m., with Betty White Devil followed by Ed Couzzo at 8:45 p.m. and The Broke Pines performing full band starting at 9:45 p.m. The event is scheduled to run until 11 p.m. Those attending are asked for a $10 donation or whatever they can afford.
