PEN ARGYL, Pa. – A broom isn’t your typical winter weather clean-up equipment, But Linda Hill in Pen Argyl says it’s the only thing that’s working after Friday night’s storm.<\/p>\n
“You can’t get to the bottom of it, because the ice is on the bottom,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The storm brought a wintry mix – with snow packing down on top of the ice leading to slick and covered roads.<\/p>\n
“The side roads are an issue around here,” Hill said. “I’m not going anywhere for a while.”<\/p>\n
Down the road, the Fiducia family tells me they started clearing the road and sidewalks around 6 a.m..<\/p>\n
“With the icy conditions, with the snow on top and the ice on the bottom, it was a little tougher. We were able to get the snow off first and are looking to salt to get the ice cleaned up,” said Chris Fiducia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fiducia says out of the storms our area has seen since November – this one has been the worst.<\/p>\n
But fortunately, he stays prepared with shovels and bags of salt for the salt bucket.<\/p>\n
A tip he recommends to others.<\/p>\n
“We usually stock up on salt because, especially last minute, these stores run out, so we try to get as much as we can,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over in Bangor, a plow truck is working to clear a parking lot with the same issue of packed ice.<\/p>\n
One resident we spoke to says he had to drive through the storm last night and the roads were the worst he’s ever experienced growing up in the borough.<\/p>\n
“It was just straight ice, it was crazy. I’ve never really seen that,” said George Dalessandro of Bangor. “I have to go get some salt.
