The Strange and Unusual, an oddities parlor in Kingston, announced on Facebook that it will be closing its doors at the 467 Wyoming Ave. location next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter 11 years in Kingston, we will be closing our doors on this chapter,\u201d said the Facebook post, posted on Saturday. \u201cAs always, thank you for your constant and continued support. Stay strange.\u201d<\/p>\n
Motionless in White keyboardist Josh Balz and tattoo artist Ryan Malarkey opened the shop together in 2013, which they called \u201ca really cool haunted house where everything is for sale.\u201d<\/p>\n
Their inventory has ranged form taxidermy to vintage portraits to bones and skulls.<\/p>\n
Their closing sale will take place from Jan. 2 to 4, with 20% off everything in store except consignment items, according to the post.<\/p>\n
Balz is also the owner of the Ritz Theater in Scranton, which was recently offered for sale for nearly $2.6 million. Balz acquired the theater, which was built in 1920, in December 2023.<\/p>\n
The past 15 months have been a difficult time for Balz, starting with the death of his mother in September 2024. Then in January, Balz discovered alleged theft from the Ritz by a former business partner, James Olecki; Balz sued Olecki in February.\u00a0On March 26, police charged Olecki with a felony count of theft by unlawful taking from business accounts of the theater.
