{"id":72944,"date":"2025-12-29T18:54:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T18:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/72944\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T18:54:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T18:54:06","slug":"delco-woman-diane-grovola-charged-with-first-degree-murder-for-stabbing-daughter-to-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/72944\/","title":{"rendered":"Delco woman Diane Grovola charged with first-degree murder for stabbing daughter to death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">A <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/delaware-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Delaware County<\/a> woman was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing her 23-year-old daughter to death in their <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/upper-darby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Upper Darby<\/a> Township home two days before Christmas, authorities say. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Police found Diane Grovola, 57, naked, covered in blood, and suffering self-inflicted stab wounds when they responded to a 911 call at the family residence that morning, according to the affidavit of probable cause in her arrest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Grovola\u2019s daughter was in an upstairs bedroom with knife wounds to her face, chest, legs, and back. Her eyes were open but she was unresponsive, the affidavit says. She was pronounced dead shortly after. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cSorry, I should have stabbed myself first,\u201d Grovola told officers as they placed her in wrist restraints. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Grovola\u2019s husband, the girl\u2019s father, was first to discover the distressing scene. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The man arrived at the home on South Bishop Avenue in the Secane section around 6:30 a.m. after returning from a shift at the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/philadelphia-airport\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia International Airport<\/a>, the affidavit says. He had stopped at McDonald\u2019s to get breakfast for his family. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Once inside, the man was greeted by the family dog, which had suffered knife wounds to its abdomen and \u201cgot blood on his clothing,\u201d according to the affidavit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">He found his wife seated on the living room sofa with a knife in her hand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cI stabbed our daughter,\u201d she told him. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">As the man dialed 911, Diane Grovola told her husband she did not want to live anymore and begun to stab herself in the chest, according to the affidavit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The operator told the man to flee the residence. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">During that time, Grovola stripped naked and began breaking items in the kitchen until police arrived. They eventually recovered a large stainless-steel knife which appeared to have blood on it, the affidavit says. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">In addition to first-degree murder, prosecutors charged Grovola with third-degree murder, possessing an instrument of a crime, and aggravated cruelty to an animal that resulted in death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">She is being held in the George W.
