READING, Pa. – Berks County District Attorney John Adams said a shooting happened at a home on the 400 block of South 9th Street in Reading around 2 a.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n
“The individual who’s been identified as the shooter actually approached a police officer and told the police officer that he just shot someone,” said Adams.<\/p>\n
Adams said the man indicated the person he shot may have been trying to break into the home.<\/p>\n
Police could be seen in the area for hours and the district attorney said the man was taken into custody.<\/p>\n
“He’s presently at City Hall and the Reading Police have applied for and have gotten a search warrant to search where the shooting took place,” said Adams.<\/p>\n
Adams said the man who shot the person legally owned the gun.<\/p>\n
The DA said investigators are looking into whether the shooting was self-defense.<\/p>\n
“We’ll be making a decision based upon the evidence that is gathered whether or not criminal charges are appropriate and at this point, that remains up in the air,” said Adams.<\/p>\n
