This first weekend of the new year is the perfect chance to cozy up for the last few days of winter break \u2014 or head out for some Yinzer family fun. There are events big and small across the region.<\/p>\n

So start 2026 off right with Kidsburgh as your guide:<\/p>\n

Through Jan. 4: \u201cAim High: Soaring with the Tuskeegee Airmen\u201d at the Children\u2019s Museum of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

This is your last weekend to visit this groundbreaking and exciting new exhibit, which closes Jan. 4. Children of all ages can imagine themselves as future aviators through hands-on imaginative play and inspirational real artifacts and stories from the past. This exhibit was created by the Children\u2019s Museum of Pittsburgh in partnership with Hosanna House, Inc. The exhibit includes the Black Wings, American Dreams of Flight exhibit, featuring a series of historic artifacts that tell the story of how African Americans, despite facing racial barriers, attained great achievements in the world of aviation. Black Wings, American Dreams of Flight is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) in collaboration with the Smithsonian\u2019s National Air and Space Museum. Through Jan. 4: \u201cClue\u201d at the Benedum Center<\/p>\n

Opening on Dec. 30 and running through Jan. 4, this fun, nonstop stage musical is great for big kids and adults. Tickets<\/a> are still available through the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, beginning at $54.<\/p>\n

Thursday, Jan. 1: WTAE Project Bundle-Up Polar Bear Plunge, 9:30 a.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At this event, folks will be \u201cfreezin\u2019 so they don\u2019t have to.\u201d Ring in the New Year by jumping into the freezing cold Monongahela River at the Mon Wharf with the Pittsburgh Polar Bear Club. The event is free, but commemorative t-shirts are sold to benefit WTAE-TV\u2019s project Bundle-Up. Find more details here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thursday, Jan. 1: Icicle Bicycle 2026 at REI South Side Works, 10:45 a.m. <\/p>\n

Whether you want to partake in this chilly journey or just cheer others on and donate to the Community Human Services Food Pantry, stop by REI on New Year\u2019s Day to kick off this annual bike ride that loops all around the city. Find details and register here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Friday, Jan. 2: Wiggles and Giggles Story Time at Penn Hills Library, 10:30 a.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Saturday, Jan. 3: \u201cK-Pop Demon Hunters\u201d Children\u2019s Cinema at Penn Hills Library, 1:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sunday, Jan. 4: Breakdancing for Kids with Los Sabrosos, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These easy, fun classes are where students learn the first steps to becoming a breakdancer. Students will get the chance to explore new movements gradually, as the teacher breaks down the elements of each step. Class begins with a warm-up and ends with open questions. The goal is for students to build confidence in themselves and the new moves they\u2019ve learned. This is a 60-minute class with breaks. The cost is $20 for drop-in, with discounts and packages available. The 2 p.m. class is for kids who are more experienced, while the 3 p.m. class is for beginners.
