City police charged a South Carolina man with aggravated assault after his girlfriend died Monday evening in a domestic incident, according to a Scranton police release.<\/p>\n
Officers responded at about 3:45 p.m. to the rear of 1131 W. Locust St., Roundwoods Place, West Scranton, for a report of a woman\u00a0 who was not breathing. When police got to the scene, they found Rose Hernandez, 18, in a puddle of blood and bleeding from the mouth.<\/p>\n
She was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center\u2019s Trauma Unit, where she was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
Her injuries were consistent with having been hit by a motor vehicle, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers spoke with Joseph Garcia, 18, who said the couple had been arguing before the incident.<\/p>\n
Garcia told police he had been inside the car, but didn\u2019t want Hernandez to get in. When he attempted to drive away, Hernandez clung to the door of his car.<\/p>\n
He said when he attempted to stop, Hernandez hit another vehicle.<\/p>\n
When he stopped the vehicle, Garcia found Hernandez on the ground.<\/p>\n
Police charged Garcia with two counts of aggravated assault. He remains at Lackawanna County Prison, according to state records.<\/p>\n
Hernandez\u2019s autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n
