{"id":74810,"date":"2025-12-31T16:08:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T16:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/74810\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T16:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T16:08:11","slug":"erie-airport-lands-two-major-carriers-for-chicago-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/74810\/","title":{"rendered":"Erie airport lands two major carriers for Chicago route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/6750ab065ab4f5d6bb5d7cb1d97d8182.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">An airport north of Pittsburgh received two shots of good news this month, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/organization\/american-airlines\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:American Airlines;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">American Airlines<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/organization\/united-airlines\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:United Airlines;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">United Airlines<\/a> announcing within a day of each other that they would fly the Chicago-Erie International Tom Ridge Field route beginning next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">American (Nasdaq: AAL) plans to resume year-round service between Erie and Chicago O\u2019Hare International Airport on May 21, 2026, with a 65-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jet. Then United Airlines, which has a hub at O\u2019Hare, announced it would resume its own Chicago-Erie service. United\u2019s three daily flights will begin June 1, 2026, with its SkyWest regional airline partner and 50-seat Bombardier CRJ550 jets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Both jets have first-class seating; American\u2019s CRJ-700 has three classes of service.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">American and United go head-to-head in Chicago, where United was granted five more gates and American got two more from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/organization\/spirit-airlines\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Spirit Airlines;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Spirit Airlines<\/a>.
