Joe passed peacefully on Sunday at Scranton Healthcare Center.<\/p>\n<p>\nBorn November 22, 1937 in Scranton, Joe was the son of the late Charles and Mary Zakrzewski Guziewicz. Joe was lifelong resident of South Side and a 1955 graduate of South Catholic High School. Upon graduation, he entered the Air Force where he served for four years as an aircraft mechanic in Texas, South Carolina, and Turkey, among other bases. After earning an honorable discharge from service, he returned to Scranton where he met the love of his life, Marita, on a blind date on New Years Eve 1962. They were married May 30, 1964, and had 5 children. Joe was employed at McKinney MFG for 40 years before retirement in July 2004. In his free time, he was a baseball coach at Connell Park, where he also helped as a groundskeeper.<\/p>\n<p>\nJoe was a fan of the SWB Red Barons\/Railriders and was an original season ticket holder, which he held for over 25 years. From an early age, Joe held a passion for music. He fostered his passion by performing as a Tenor with the Marywood Campus Choir for 32 years and the Northeast Choral Society for 30 years. His greatest joy was singing with his granddaughters at both Marywood and the Choral Society. He loved doing crossword puzzles, playing games on his computer, and enjoyed the challenge of playing along nightly watching Jeopardy.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, Joseph (Angela), Terri, Stephanie, and Greg (Amy). As well as eleven grandchildren, brother, Albert (Kate), several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his beloved furry fury, Daisy. He was preceded in death by son John, sister Barbara, and brother Gene.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe funeral will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 8:30 from the August J Haas Funeral Home, 202 Pittston Ave., with a mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at the Cathedral of St Peter to be celebrated by Rev. Scott Sterowski. Internment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
