William Reynolds called federal funding freezes <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/bethlehem\/bethlehem-mayor-trump-funding-freeze-an-existential-threat-to-citys-78-000-residents-beyond\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201can existential threat\u201d to citizens on Jan. 29<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 5, public commenters at a Bethlehem City Council meeting said officials should pass <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/bethlehem\/speakers-pack-bethlehem-town-hall-to-call-for-city-council-to-pass-sanctuary-city-ordinance\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a welcoming city ordinance amid increased activity from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement around the country<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"Saucon Park bald eagle\"  width=\"880\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/static.lehigh-v.lehigh-valley.production.k1.m1.brightspot.cloud\/dims4\/default\/35d2432\/2147483647\/strip\/true\/crop\/1369x770+0+0\/resize\/880x495!\/quality\/90\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flehigh-valley-brightspot.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com%2F97%2F5d%2Fbc3568b94133afa5c6811b780377%2Feagle.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" bad-src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSI0OTVweCIgd2lkdGg9Ijg4MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Distributed <\/p>\n<p>\/<\/p>\n<p>Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center Facebook page<\/p>\n<p>The Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center confirmed Wednesday the ailing bald eagle rescued from Saucon Park that later died in quarantine tested positive for bird flu during a necropsy this past week.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks following, a mature mother bald eagle known for nesting in Saucon Park <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/environment-science\/bird-flu-to-blame-for-death-of-bald-eagle-rescued-from-saucon-park\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">died of bird flu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Around that time, concerned advocates of immigrants used the dais at City Council <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/bethlehem\/were-not-criminals-bethlehem-residents-council-continue-to-volley-pro-immigrant-welcoming-city-ordinance\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">to ask for broader action in protecting undocumented residents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Officials ultimately did not propose a welcoming city ordinance this past year. <\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Michelle Kott said her department would remain \u201claser-focused on trying to provide the best quality public safety services to our community\u201d while also following federal law.<\/p>\n<p>In early March, Bethlehem shared its 10-year park improvements plan with the public for the first time \u2014 with a playground at Friendship Park as a backdrop. <\/p>\n<p>The spot at 247 E.
