SCRANTON, LACKWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Scranton firefighters quickly brought a residential structure fire under control Saturday night on the city\u2019s West Side.<\/p>\n
Crews were dispatched to a second-alarm house fire on Luzerne St. around 7:30 p.m. Acting Assistant Chief Sandrowicz and members of A-Shift responded to the scene. Engine 7 was first to arrive, with acting Captain Saldonis reporting heavy fire conditions on the second floor of the home.<\/p>\n
Firefighters immediately stretched hose lines and made entry, getting water on the flames and containing the fire before it could spread further. Additional companies arrived within minutes to assist with searches of the structure and overhaul operations.<\/p>\n
Two adults, their two children, and two dogs were left homeless and are being assisted by the Red Cross.<\/p>\n
Because the fire was located just blocks from Engine 7\u2019s firehouse, off-duty personnel were recalled to staff reserve apparatus and ensure adequate coverage for the rest of the city while crews remained committed to the incident.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been released, and the incident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
