READING, Pa. – A major landmark is reopening its doors in Reading. The Pagoda, closed since COVID, is now expected to welcome back visitors soon.<\/p>\n
“If the Pagoda can be the symbol of that, being part of the pivotal change in Reading that we’re all looking for, I think that’s very important,” says Donna Reed, Reading City Council president.<\/p>\n
After several years, the big reopening of the Pagoda is approaching.<\/p>\n
“April, 21 of this year. So, it’s exciting. Barring any major setbacks, that is the target date,” says Joey Miranda, president to the Foundation for the Reading Pagoda.<\/p>\n
Just in time to celebrate the anniversary of when the city acquired the building, amongst many things.<\/p>\n
“It’s part of a fresh start for the city. It’s also part of America’s 250th,” Reed says.<\/p>\n
But while its doors have remained closed since 2020, a major makeover is in progress.<\/p>\n
“The electrical, the plumbing, the HVAC, old paint that’s been stripped, removing anything that didn’t need to be, our old asbestos, making sure that it is safe for all of us to go in,” Miranda says.<\/p>\n
And following news in recent years of illegal parties on the grounds, organizers say the aim is for it to be a safe place where people can enjoy the landmark that has stood over Reading for more than 100 years.<\/p>\n
“We’re bringing it back to more of a park-like setting.
