AKRON, Ohio \u2013 The January Akron Roundtable event will feature Daniel M. Rice, president and CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition.<\/p>\n
The event is set for noon on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Quaker Station, located at 135 S. Broadway St. Tickets are $30 per person, which includes lunch. Register online<\/a>. <\/p>\n Rice\u2019s presentation is titled \u201cThe Legacy of the Ohio & Erie Canalway: Accessible, Equitable, and Welcoming Parks, Trails and Public Spaces.\u201d <\/p>\n Rice has led the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition since 1994, according to the event website. During his time with the coalition, he has cultivated dozens of community partnerships, which have generated $75 million in funds for the development of the 101-mile multi-use Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. <\/p>\n The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition serves as the convener for Akron Reimagining the Civic Commons, part of a national initiative that has made $40 million in investments in public space, park and trail improvements along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Akron. The goal of Reimagining the Civic Commons is to create accessible, equitable and welcoming public spaces.<\/p>\n An Ohio native, Rice earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in history from the College of Wooster and a master\u2019s degree in American History from the University of Akron. He has also served on several local and state nonprofit boards and committees, according to the event website.<\/p>\n Bridget A.
