SCRANTON, PA \u2014 Scranton police have made an arrest following an attempted child abduction that took place Monday morning near South Scranton Intermediate School.<\/p>\n
The investigation began Monday, January 5, after reports surfaced of a man attempting to abduct a child near the school. Shortly after, a second attempt was reported on the 500 block of East Elm Street. According to police, the suspect was operating a silver Hyundai Elantra with tinted windows that had been reported stolen from Cedar Avenue earlier that day.<\/p>\n
Following a city-wide search, investigators located the abandoned vehicle Monday afternoon. Overnight, authorities confirmed they had taken a man into custody in connection with the use of the stolen vehicle and the ongoing abduction investigation.<\/p>\n
In response to the incidents, the Scranton School District has implemented increased security measures across all buildings today. District officials have advised parents and guardians to be vigilant, ensure students are picked up promptly at dismissal, and, where possible, have children walk home in groups or with an adult.<\/p>\n
While an arrest has been made, Scranton police emphasize that the investigation remains active. Detectives are currently working to determine if the individual in custody is linked to both reported attempts and are reviewing video surveillance from the area.<\/p>\n
