EASTON, Pa. — The chief of the Easton Fire Department says it’s time to go back to square one. He says people aren’t calling 911 to report fire incidents.<\/p>\n
The chief says some of those calls are going to the wrong place.<\/p>\n
“I can typically get three or four calls a week, for people calling the firehouse instead of calling 911,” said Chief Henry Hennings.<\/p>\n
Hennings thinks it’s a case of people not wanting to call 911 with what they think is a non-emergency.<\/p>\n
One such call came in on December 28th from the Commodore Apartments on Northampton Street.<\/p>\n
“Her husband was on location. She called me. She was in Mercer County, New Jersey. She couldn’t call the 911 center so she called me,” explained Hennings.<\/p>\n
“All of that could have been avoided had the husband picked up the phone and dialed 911.”<\/p>\n
Firefighters remind everyone that calling 911 saves time, when every moment counts.<\/p>\n
“Seconds count.
