(WHTM) _ State Senator Doug Mastriano will not seek a second bid for Governor of Pennsylvania, less than three years after losing the governorship to Josh Shapiro.<\/p>\n
Mastriano announced the decision on social media Wednesday afternoon and said he would not rule out a future run.<\/p>\n
Mastirano, who has served in the State Senate representing Adams and Franklin counties since 2019, has previously expressed interest in another run for Governor<\/a>\u00a0in 2026. On July 29 he relaunched his campaign website \u201cDoug4Gov<\/a>\u201d and told abc27 \u201cWe will see\u201d when asked if he will run.<\/p>\n He\u2019s been critical of the state Republican Party, which he says plans to coronate Treasurer Stacy Garrity<\/a>, who declared her candidacy for Governor on August 18 and has been endorsed by Attorney General Dave Sunday and Auditor General Tim DeFoor.<\/p>\n A retired Army colonel, Mastriano told abc27 in February that he\u00a0believes he could win another primary<\/a> after clinching the party\u2019s gubernatorial nomination in 2022 with nearly 44% support in a nine-person primary.<\/p>\n He went on to lose the general election to Shapiro by nearly 800,000 votes, with Shapiro receiving more than 56% of the vote.<\/p>\n Mastriano drew criticism throughout his gubernatorial campaign for\u00a0efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election<\/a>\u00a0and his presence in Washington, D.C., on January 6, though Mastriano says he did not participate in the Capitol riot.<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
