{"id":82218,"date":"2026-01-09T09:47:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/82218\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T09:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:47:10","slug":"firefighter-injured-while-battling-west-pittston-blaze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/82218\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighter injured while battling West Pittston blaze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A West Pittston family was displaced from their home and a firefighter was injured following a blaze that broke out in the borough late Tuesday, according to the West Pittston Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>Crews responded to 508 Luzerne Ave. around 10:20 p.m. to a report of a fire and arrived to find smoke billowing from the second-floor eaves, Fire Chief John Hood said.<\/p>\n<p>The residents were home at the time but got out of the home safely, he said. Seven cats that were in the residence also survived the fire, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters entered the home and ran a water line to the second floor, getting the fire under control within about 20 minutes, Hood said.<\/p>\n<p>A firefighter from Avoca sustained a leg injury when he fell off a ladder during the operation, he said. That firefighter was taken to an area hospital for treatment and had been released by Wednesday afternoon, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The home sustained fire damage to the bedroom where the fire broke out as well as to a hallway.
