A West Pittston family was displaced from their home and a firefighter was injured following a blaze that broke out in the borough late Tuesday, according to the West Pittston Fire Department.<\/p>\n
Crews responded to 508 Luzerne Ave. around 10:20 p.m. to a report of a fire and arrived to find smoke billowing from the second-floor eaves, Fire Chief John Hood said.<\/p>\n
The residents were home at the time but got out of the home safely, he said. Seven cats that were in the residence also survived the fire, he said.<\/p>\n
Firefighters entered the home and ran a water line to the second floor, getting the fire under control within about 20 minutes, Hood said.<\/p>\n
A firefighter from Avoca sustained a leg injury when he fell off a ladder during the operation, he said. That firefighter was taken to an area hospital for treatment and had been released by Wednesday afternoon, he said.<\/p>\n
The home sustained fire damage to the bedroom where the fire broke out as well as to a hallway. The residence also had smoke and water damage on the first and second floors, he said.<\/p>\n
The home was not a total loss but the residents were displaced and went to stay with a relative.<\/p>\n
