The Viewmont Mall reopened Friday morning after it was evacuated Thursday for what was later confirmed to be a natural gas leak.<\/p>\n
In a social media post Friday, the mall thanked Dickson City\u2019s police and fire departments \u201cfor their quick response and dedication to keeping our community safe.\u201d It notes the mall reopened at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
UGI crews investigating a reported odor of natural gas there ultimately discovered a leak affecting gas service lines to two stores, Carter\u2019s and Foot Locker, UGI spokesman John Mason said. Crews were repairing those lines Friday morning, he said.<\/p>\n
A representative for the mall said Friday afternoon that UGI was actively working with three affected tenants \u2014 Carter\u2019s, Foot Locker and Express \u2014 \u201cto restore service as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Dickson City Police Department said on social media Thursday that power had also been shut down to the mall. PPL Electric Utilities spokesman Damon Turbitt confirmed in an email that electricity was \u201cdeenergized\u201d for safety, initially impacting 1,000 customers.<\/p>\n
