Hess was reported illegally crossing the road from east to west in the crosswalk. He had been struck in the northbound lane by a Silver Jeep that had a green light.<\/p>\n<p>The driver was cleared of all wrongdoing with no charges placed and the case has been closed.<\/p>\n<p>Hess later died at UPMC Hamot after succumbing to his injuries on Jan. 8.
