The City of Winnipeg is encouraging residents to read their meters as they kick off their first Meter Reading week.<\/p>\n
The goal is to encourage customers to submit readings, so they only pay for the water they use.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Submitting a water meter reading takes less than a minute, and it helps you get more accurate billing,” said Chair of the Water, Waste and the Environment Committee Ross Eadie.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Winnipeg homeowners are required by law to provide one meter reading per year, with the hope that customers will work towards providing readings each time they receive a meter reading reminder by mail or email.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The city says estimated bills can leave customers paying too much or too little, and it can also hide leaks.<\/p>\n
“A leak the size of a pencil lead can cost around $20 a day,” said Eadie. “Providing accurate meter reads every time you get your meter reading reminder can help identify leaks much faster.”<\/p>\n
The city says submitting a meter reading is simple. Customers can simply read the meter number, which is found on the water meter lid and record the number on the odometer-style dial on the meter face.\u00a0<\/p>\n
