The University of Scranton\u2019s life-changing, four-year,\u00a0pre-college program\u00a0was recently awarded a grant\u00a0that\u00a0will help it continue to provide encouragement and academic,\u00a0cultural\u00a0and social enrichment to local teenagers who aspire to enroll in\u00a0colleges and universities.<\/p>\n
The University of Success program at The University of Scranton received a $15,000 grant from the Robert H. Spitz Foundation. It was awarded as part of the 2025 spring grant cycle for the Robert H. Spitz Foundation, administered by the Scranton Area Community Foundation.\u00a0The funds will support promising high school students\u00a0who can contribute to the community and achieve success with access to post-secondary education.<\/p>\n
Created in 1996 and with its first full graduating class in 2001, the University of Success is supported by gifts and grants. The program, which is offered free of charge to selected local students\u00a0beginning in Grade 9 and continuing through Grade 12,\u00a0offers mentorship, seminars, test\u00a0prep\u00a0and developmental enrichment courses covering a wide range of topics.\u00a0The University of Success staff\u00a0closely works\u00a0with students to keep them on track as they develop skills and confidence\u00a0and\u00a0ultimately gain\u00a0admission to\u00a0their\u00a0chosen institutions of higher learning.\u00a0The 17 University of Success graduates in the Class of 2025 matriculated to\u00a011\u00a0colleges and universities, including five at The University of Scranton. Two graduates joined the military to further pursue their education.<\/p>\n
The Robert H. Spitz Foundation\u00a0has awarded more than $6 million in funding to initiatives and programs that serve the people of Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
