(WCAX) &#8211; The operator of the Bethlehem landfill will pay the state of New Hampshire $1.9 million in a settlement over leachate collection violations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The New Hampshire Attorney General\u2019s Office says the civil penalty was assessed against North Country Environmental Services, a subsidiary of Vermont-based Casella Waste Systems. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The violations included placing waste beyond permitted limits, failing to maintain leachate collection systems resulting in on-site discharges, and improperly drilling gas monitoring wells.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2022\/01\/14\/settlement-reached-bethlehem-landfill-case\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2022\/01\/14\/settlement-reached-bethlehem-landfill-case\/\">The company three years ago settled a federal lawsuit with two environmental groups <\/a>over allegations of leaking toxic chemicals into the Ammonoosuc River, something the company denied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WCAX.
