{"id":87463,"date":"2026-01-15T12:50:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T12:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/87463\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T12:50:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T12:50:06","slug":"7-year-old-dies-days-after-being-shot-while-playing-with-gun-inside-pittsburgh-home-wpxi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/87463\/","title":{"rendered":"7-year-old dies days after being shot while playing with gun inside Pittsburgh home \u2013 WPXI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">PITTSBURGH \u2014 A child who police said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/child-rushed-hospital-after-being-shot-head-while-playing-with-gun-pittsburgh-home\/65BCY2ZPTJH7HAFI4RKVGKYTPM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/child-rushed-hospital-after-being-shot-head-while-playing-with-gun-pittsburgh-home\/65BCY2ZPTJH7HAFI4RKVGKYTPM\/\">was shot while playing with a gun inside a Pittsburgh home<\/a> has died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The Allegheny County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office said that Kruz Bailey-Baker, 7, died at the hospital on Wednesday evening. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">On Saturday, officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Kirkbride Street in the city\u2019s California-Kirkbride neighborhood around 9:45 a.m. for a reported shooting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">When officers got on scene, they spoke with a 9-year-old child who said he and his 7-year-old brother were playing with a gun in the basement. The gun went off while the children were handling it, shooting the 7-year-old in the head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">It wasn\u2019t exactly clear how the gun went off, but public safety officials said the investigation showed the 9-year-old accidentally shot the 7-year-old, as the 9-year-old told police that the gun was in his possession at the time of the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The 7-year-old was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition and taken immediately into surgery, where he later died. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">No adults were home at the time of the shooting. Police said an adult who lives in the home had recently left for work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The 9-year-old and a 16-year-old boy, who was also in the home at the time, were taken into custody for questioning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">At this point, no charges are pending.
