Harrisburg, Pa. \u2014 The Pennsylvania State Police, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Pennsylvania American Legion, is now accepting applications for its annual youth camp.<\/p>\n

The youth camp will take place June 7\u201313 at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County.<\/p>\n

“This program aims to cultivate leadership, discipline, self-esteem, and confidence while equipping cadets morally, intellectually, and physically for leadership responsibilities,” said\u00a0Lt. Col. George L. Bivens, acting commissioner of the State Police. “The camp challenges participants to grow, recognize their potential, and appreciate the value of service. It ensures they leave with new skills, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of pride in their accomplishments.”<\/p>\n

The six-day program is for teenagers ages 15 to 17 who are interested in exploring careers in Pennsylvania law enforcement or the military. Cadets will take part in a wide range of hands\u2011on learning experiences and physical fitness training designed to build their understanding of law enforcement as well as their confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeciding to serve the commonwealth or our country is a big step for young people and their families,\u201d said\u00a0Major General John R. Pippy, head of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.\u00a0\u201cPrograms like this let teens explore that calling up close and see what a future with the PSP or the PANG might hold. We\u2019re excited to continue providing this opportunity for Pennsylvania\u2019s youth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Activities and demonstrations include police scenarios, physical fitness training, drill and ceremony, forensics, traffic and criminal law, water survival, marksmanship, and team-building. Cadets will also visit the State Police Academy in Hershey and Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center in Lebanon County.<\/p>\n

The camp is staffed by members of the PSP, the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and the American Legion. At the conclusion of the program, three cadets will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n

Applicants must be 15 to 17 years old at the start of the camp. Candidates should be physically fit, in good health, and maintain a strong academic record. Cadets are sponsored by local American Legion posts, so there is no cost to participate.<\/p>\n
