PENNSYLVANIA \u2014 The Pennsylvania General Assembly is passing a new law that strengthens accountability for impaired driving.<\/p>\n
The law also changes a recent court ruling that limits how prior DUI cases are counted. As a result, repeat offenders will not be able to dodge higher penalties.<\/p>\n
Officials say the new law closes a gap and restores the intent of the DUI statute, meaning repeat offenders will be taken seriously<\/p>\n
Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson said the law gives prosecutors clear guidance, supports victims, and helps keep roads safer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you drive, you have to take responsibility for that, and you also make sure you\u2019re taking responsibility, not just for your own safety but for those around you sharing the road with you,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt makes me feel a lot better, not just as a prosecutor but as a resident of Bradford County and a resident of the commonwealth of PA. Both that our legislature recognizes the seriousness of driving under the influence offenses and driving in an impaired state,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n
