HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) \u2014 Trump officials made a trip to the Pennsylvania Farm Show on Thursday to pitch the administration\u2019s policies and counter remarks made a day earlier by Gov. Josh Shapiro (D).<\/p>\n
Shapiro, while touring the farm show, said the president\u2019s tariffs are a gut punch to farmers.<\/p>\n
Close<\/a><\/p>\n Thanks for signing up!<\/p>\n Watch for us in your inbox.<\/p>\n Subscribe Now<\/p>\n \u201cMake no mistake,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cWhen the president pushes a button and causes a multi-billion dollar problem for the ag industry, meaning a multi-billion dollar price hike for the ag industry, it\u2019s very hard to make that up at the state level.\u201d<\/p>\n U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, joined by National Nutrition Advisor Ben Carson, called the governor\u2019s statement \u201creally unfortunate.\u201d Tariffs, she said, are meant to rebalance an agriculture trade deficit created by the Biden administration.<\/p>\n \u201cWe inherited an absolute mess last January,\u201d Rollins said.<\/p>\n Since Trump took office last year, Rollins said dairy exports went up 23%. That\u2019s a statistic likely to resonate in Pennsylvania, which ranks seventh in the nation for dairy exports.<\/p>\n
