ROBESONIA, Pa. \u2013 Police say 65-year-old Sherry Yoh, of North Heidelberg Township, was struck and killed Wednesday night while crossing West Penn Avenue near Brooke Street in Robesonia.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was devastated to hear about that,\u201d said Lori Brown, owner of Lori\u2019s Candy Station.<\/p>\n
Just steps from the crash scene, 69 News met Brown, who has owned the candy shop since 1997. It\u2019s a place filled with kids, families, and longtime memories \u2014 now overshadowed by tragedy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up in town here,\u201d Brown said. \u201cSo I\u2019ve seen the changes over the last 60 years\u2026and traffic is terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n
She says fear along this stretch of West Penn Avenue isn\u2019t new.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had the incident the other year at the traffic light where the fellow was hit,\u201d Brown said. \u201cYou just hate to see that.\u201d<\/p>\n
She\u2019s referring to 2021, when 65-year-old Robert Hatt was killed in a hit-and-run while walking his dog on the same road.<\/p>\n
Standing along Penn Avenue, the concern is clear as cars speed by.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always make sure traffic has stopped, even though the light\u2019s red, because you can\u2019t assume they\u2019re going to stop,\u201d Brown said. \u201cEverybody tries to beat the light.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brown says while new crosswalk signs have been added, more needs to be done.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe flashing lights with the crosswalk signs,\u201d she said. \u201cA couple of the crosswalk signs aren\u2019t even close to where the crosswalk is.\u201d<\/p>\n
