BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. –\u00a0Bethlehem Township Police say authorities removed\u00a0explosive devices and materials on Thursday from the home of a man accused of assault and terroristic threats.<\/p>\n
Daniel Allen Bissey, 73, had been in\u00a0Northampton County Prison when officers recovered the materials, the\u00a0Bethlehem Township Police Department said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n
Bissey had been charged earlier in the week with simple assault, reckless endangerment to another person, and terroristic threats,\u00a0which included threats to law enforcement officers, township police said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n
Township police say officers\u00a0responded to a home in the 3800 block of Lehigh Street\u00a0Tuesday shortly before 9 p.m.\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0for a report of a domestic violence assault.<\/p>\n
A woman in the home reported to police that Bissey had gotten mad about a can of food that was in the sink, according to an affidavit of probable cause.<\/p>\n
During the argument, Bissey threw the food can at the woman’s face, injuring her nose, authorities said in court paperwork. He then grabbed her shoulder, causing another injury, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
While the woman was collecting items to leave, Bissey grabbed a handgun and held it while watching her pack, police said in court documents.<\/p>\n
According to court documents,\u00a0Bissey had said “I am going to kill everyone” multiple times.<\/p>\n
The investigation led to Bissey’s arrest, township police said in the\u00a0Facebook post.<\/p>\n
According to the Facebook post, more than 20 firearms were recovered from the residence. Bissey was arraigned late Wednesday night and was committed to Northampton County Prison pending bail.<\/p>\n
Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, Bethlehem Township Police and Northampton County Deputy Sheriffs were called to the home to take custody of several more firearms that were discovered, according to\u00a0township police.<\/p>\n
While on scene, officers and deputies were alerted that there were also possible explosive materials in the home, according\u00a0to the Facebook post.<\/p>\n
Township police said officers found quantities of explosive devices and materials in the home. A request was made for the Bethlehem Bomb Squad to respond to the scene to assess and remove the explosive materials, according to the social media post.<\/p>\n
Representatives from the FBI and ATF also responded to the scene.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0township police,\u00a0members of the Bethlehem Bomb Squad\u00a0safely removed the explosives from the home.<\/p>\n
Due to public safety considerations, access to the neighborhood area was temporarily restricted until the Bomb Squad safely removed the explosive materials, township police said. Officers cleared from the area at approximately 8:15 p.m. and the access restrictions to the area were lifted.<\/p>\n
Township police say an investigation related to the recovered explosive materials is ongoing.
