PORT CLINTON (WJW) \u2014 A rare slice of paradise has hit the market in Northeast Ohio.<\/p>\n

Mouse Island, a secluded 7-acre private island on Lake Erie<\/a> in Ottaway County, is now for sale for $5 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s located just off the northern tip of Catawba Island.\u00a0 Seven acres of rich history and endless potential,\u201d said Jon Deegan of Howard Hanna.<\/p>\n

How soon do clocks \u2018spring forward?\u2019 This year, the earliest possible date <\/a><\/p>\n

The property is listed by Deegan and fellow realtor Kyle Recker.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe island is zoned for private use, meaning a buyer could build a home or build a development there,\u201d said Recker.<\/p>\n

With both eastern and western views of Lake Erie, Recker said the island boasts breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you take your boat around it, you can see all the potential,\u201d Recker said. \u201cThe sunrises and sunsets are one in a million.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mouse Island isn\u2019t just secluded \u2014 it\u2019s historic. The island was once owned by President Rutherford B. Hayes. According to the listing agents, there have been only two owners in the last 150 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo say you own something that President Hayes once owned \u2014 that\u2019s pretty special,\u201d Recker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe island was once home to a small cabin and a family beach, but all structures have since deteriorated, leaving the land pristine and undeveloped,\u201d added Deegan.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s one more unique perk: the buyer has the right to rename the island. While it\u2019s officially listed as Mouse Island by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names, there is a formal process to change it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had interested phone calls as far away as Germany,\u201d said Deegan.<\/p>\n
