The car overturned and Dowdell, who was not wearing his seat belt, sustained &#8220;severe trauma&#8221; after being trapped in the wreckage, the coroner&#8217;s report said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said Dowdell was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania State Police could not immediately confirm details of the incident on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>But an official statement from the coroner&#8217;s office said Dowdell had been traveling from Ski Sawmill in Morris, Pennsylvania, when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Toxicology reports are pending, but that testing is standard procedure in such incidents \u2014 and there were no immediate indications that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"John Valenti\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"88\" height=\"104\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768845608_343_image.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>John Valenti, a Newsday reporter since 1981, has been honored nationally by the Associated Press, Society of the Silurians and National Headliner Awards for investigative, enterprise and breaking news reporting, as well as column writing.
