HARRISBURG, Pa. \u2013 Pennsylvania lawmakers announced multiple grants to support Lehigh County on Tuesday, including a grant that will help the Lehigh Valley International Airport.<\/p>\n
Authorities say one of the state grants, worth $2.1 million, will support Lehigh County roadway and sewer infrastructure projects in their legislative districts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis critical funding helps municipalities improve public safety and accessibility while maintaining essential infrastructure like roads, bridges, and sewer systems,\u201d said Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16). \u201cThese projects will make our communities safer, more connected, and move important improvements one step closer to completion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThese grants will help Lower Macungie Township make critical pedestrian safety improvements and ensure accessibility for all residents, while the Macungie Borough Authority can upgrade aging water mains to provide reliable service,\u201d said Rep. Gary Day (R-187).<\/p>\n
The following approved projects received funding from the state Multimodal Transportation Fund Program:<\/p>\n
City of Allentown was awarded $800,000 for Phase II of the MLK Trail extension project.<\/p>\n
Lower Macungie Township was awarded $186,700 to construct pedestrian safety improvements along Brookside and Princeton Roads as well as $322,134 to install ADA ramp and curb improvements within three neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
North Whitehall Township was awarded $462,027 to replace the Rockdale Road Bridge.<\/p>\n
The following approved projects received funding from the state Small Water and Sewer Program:<\/p>\n
Officials say the second state grant was awarded to the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, providing $1.3 million toward construction of a new parking garage connected to Lehigh Valley International Airport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Lehigh Valley International Airport is a major gateway to Pennsylvania, and the new parking garage is one more way the airport is preparing for continued growth,\u201d said Coleman. \u201cWith more people visiting our commonwealth every year, this funding helps ensure the airport can meet that demand.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe airport has seen record-breaking numbers of passengers in the past two years, and this project will expand capacity, improve convenience for travelers, and ensure ABE is well-positioned to meet growing demand into the future,\u201d said Sen.
