{"id":92860,"date":"2026-01-21T20:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/92860\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T20:18:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:18:14","slug":"orwigsburg-man-hurt-in-11-vehicle-pileup-in-berks-county-pottsville-republican-herald","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/92860\/","title":{"rendered":"Orwigsburg man hurt in 11-vehicle pileup in Berks County \u2013 Pottsville Republican Herald"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Orwigsburg man was seriously injured in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicanherald.com\/2026\/01\/19\/6-injured-in-11-vehicle-pileup-in-berks-that-closed-i-78\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11-vehicle pileup<\/a> that closed Interstate 78 in Berks County on Saturday, state police said.<\/p>\n<p>Kursat Ilgun, 43, was injured in a crash shortly before 8 a.m. on the snow-covered westbound lanes of I-78 in Greenwich Twp., according to a report from PSP Hamburg.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the crash occurred as Abdukadir A. Ibrahim, 37, of Syracuse, New York, was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer just east of Hausman Road along mile marker 39.<\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim was traveling too fast and lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a center concrete barrier, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Ten more vehicles \u2014 including three other tractor-trailers \u2014 crashed behind Ibrahim\u2019s vehicle, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Among them was a 2021 Hyundai Kona being driven by Ilgun, who was the second motorist listed in the crash report.<\/p>\n<p>Ilgun suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported by Life Lion to Reading Hospital, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Six other people injured in the crash were transported to Reading Hospital and Lehigh Valley Hospital, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-78 until 2:55 p.m. Saturday, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they will file traffic citations against Ibrahim through Magisterial District Court 23-3-06 in Hamburg.<\/p>\n<p>Ten of the 11 vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
