In Western New York, Erie County residents can enhance local wildlife and environmental health by participating in the 2026 Conservation Tree and Shrub Seedling Sale<\/p>\n

BUFFALO, N.Y. \u2014 It may still be winter in Western New York, but now is a good time to start thinking about the spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District is now taking orders for the 2026 Conservation Tree and Shrub Seedling Sale.<\/p>\n

There will be many varieties of trees and shrubs, along with wildflowers seed mixes available to purchase that will attract, feed and shelter birds, butterflies and other wildlife.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Experts say planting seedlings and wildflowers provide wildlife food, habitat, shelter crops and landscape. They also reduce heating\/cooling expenses, protest water quality and reduce air pollution, they say.<\/p>\n

There are 32 species of trees and shrubs available this year. The bare root seedlings are one to three years old, and range in size from 6 to 24 inches. They are available in lots of 10 to 100.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The District is also offering a selection of more mature trees, like evergreen transplant.<\/p>\n

In addition to the trees, shrubs and seedlings, county residents will be able to purchase stocks marking flags, fertilizer tablets, and tree shelters You can also order Bluebird nest boxes.<\/p>\n

You can get an order form by calling (716) 652-8480 ext. 5, or by printing the order form from the District website at www.ecswcd.org<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Orders are due by February 27, 2026.
