Archbald Neighborhood Association, Archbald Borough to host Archbald Winter Carnival<\/p>\n
The Archbald Neighborhood Association, in partnership with Archbald Borough, will host the Archbald Winter Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. in and around the Borough Building, 400 Church St. The Borough Building and Archbald High School Plaza Park will be transformed into a winter wonderland to celebrate Archbald\u2019s 150th anniversary.<\/p>\n
The kid-friendly event will include free s\u2019mores, hotdogs and popcorn and fire pits, as well as drone demonstrations with the Archbald Police Department and Touch a Truck with the Eynon Sturges Hose Company.<\/p>\n
There will also be crafts and family-friendly winter games in the park with prizes. The event will feature desserts from Queen of Tarts Desserts, hot chocolate, coffee and soup from Ginger\u2019s Pies and barbecue items from Smoked and Sauced food truck. The Valley Community Library will lead a winter story time, and free hair tinsel will be available from Mandy with Holiday Hair.<\/p>\n

County library system to hold annual Winter Reading Challenge<\/p>\n
The Lackawanna County Library System will hold its annual Winter Reading Challenge from Feb. 2-28 with a patriotic twist. In honor of the country\u2019s 250th anniversary, this year\u2019s theme is \u201cReading Starts a Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Readers of all ages may participate. The challenge encourages children, teens and adults to \u201cdiscover how stories can grow ideas that can change the world and ourselves by exploring the resources, events and community\u201d at all of its libraries, according to the Lackawanna County Library System Facebook page.<\/p>\n
The library system is made up of the Abington, Carbondale, Dalton, North Pocono, Taylor, Scranton and Valley Community libraries and the Lackawanna County Bookmobile. The Scranton Public Library includes three buildings, the Albright Memorial Library, the Nancy Kay Holmes Branch and the Lackawanna County Children\u2019s Library.<\/p>\n
Each library will have educational activities and programs about the country\u2019s history and culture that aim to \u201cpreserve the revolutionary spirit of our nation\u2019s beginnings\u201d and \u201ccelebrate our fundamental freedoms,\u201d according to the Facebook announcement.<\/p>\n
Throughout February, libraries will host themed story times, book clubs, lectures, film screenings and crafts that celebrate the country\u2019s milestone.<\/p>\n
During the challenge, patrons may visit any library to receive a bingo-style activity log that asks them to take part in new experiences and borrow from its collection of books, movies, music and games. By returning a completed log, participants will be entered into raffle drawings for the chance to win a prize.<\/p>\n
The Winter Challenge is presented as a part of the state America250PA project in Lackawanna County.<\/p>\n
Forest City class of 1976 announces 50th class reunion<\/p>\n
The Forest City class of 1976 will hold its 50th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 15.<\/p>\n
The organizing committee will pay tribute to distinguished alumni, recognize class leaders and remember departed classmates. Attendees are encouraged to bring memorabilia and photos to contribute to the class archive and to participate in a group photo to commemorate the occasion.<\/p>\n
