{"id":93601,"date":"2026-01-22T13:20:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T13:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/93601\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T13:20:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T13:20:06","slug":"new-allentown-councilman-looks-to-bring-clarity-after-2026-budget-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/93601\/","title":{"rendered":"New Allentown councilman looks to bring \u2018clarity\u2019 after 2026 budget battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2014 Questions lingered over the status of the city\u2019s budget well into the new year after council challenged the mayor\u2019s authority to adopt his own spending plan.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Matt Tuerk insisted his initial 2026 budget proposal \u2014 which includes an almost 4% property tax raise and a rise in annual trash fees \u2014 <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighvalleynews.com\/allentown\/mayor-insists-allentown-has-a-2026-budget-the-one-he-1st-proposed-with-tax-increase\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">took effect Jan. 1<\/a>.
