{"id":94194,"date":"2026-01-23T02:07:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T02:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/94194\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T02:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T02:07:08","slug":"pafa-selects-kristen-shepherd-as-new-president-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/94194\/","title":{"rendered":"PAFA selects Kristen Shepherd as new president, CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pafa.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts<\/a> has named Kristen Shepherd its new president and CEO, taking the helm of the oldest art museum and school in the U.S. as the nation celebrates the semiquincentennial.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America\u2019s founding document, it is an exciting and important time to share the ongoing story of American art,\u201d Shepherd said in a release. \u201cOur founders established PAFA because they believed that cultivating the fine arts was important for our young country, and we carry those ideals forward today.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Shepherd will take the reins Feb. 9 after serving as the executive director and CEO of the <a href=\"https:\/\/mfastpete.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of Fine Arts<\/a> in St. Petersburg, Florida. With more than 25 years of experience in the arts leadership sector, she said she was excited to lead the institution into \u201cits next chapter as a force in the world of American art.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPAFA\u2019s collection is superlative, and it demonstrates that American art is an ever-evolving story,\u201d Shepherd said. \u201cThe fact that the institution has been collecting contemporary art since its inception in 1805 and was the nation\u2019s very first fine arts school is a remarkable legacy and mandate.
