State Reps. Peter Schweyer, D-134th, and Michael Schlossberg, D-132nd, announced Dec. 18, 2025, more than $2 million in state funding from the statewide Local Share Account will go to multiple projects in the community.<\/p>\n
The funding was awarded to the following:<\/p>\n
\u2022$800,000 to construct a 1.2-mile extension of the Martin Luther King Drive Trail.<\/p>\n
\u2022$400,000 for the renovation of the Jewish Community Center in Allentown City.<\/p>\n
\u2022$346,158 to develop the intersection located at Lehigh Street and Union Street.<\/p>\n
\u2022$296,878 to assist the Museum of Indian Culture in the development of the Lenape Village Park.<\/p>\n
\u2022$224,759 for the purchase of a leaf collection truck to be used in Upper Macungie Township.<\/p>\n
\u2022$193,053 for Grange Park basketball court improvements.<\/p>\n
\u2022$78,435 for the purchase and installation of playground equipment at Earl Adams Memorial Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it\u2019s providing state-of-the-art communications equipment for our emergency responders or upgrading and modernizing our outdated crosswalks and intersections in downtown Allentown or expanding access to our green spaces and recreational areas, the funding awarded will provide significant improvements to our community,\u201d Schweyer said. \u201cI am always proud to partner with my Lehigh County legislative colleagues and Sen. Nick Miller, D-14th, to bring state funding back to our area to improve our neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thrilled to see these funds approved for critical needs in our community and have been supportive of these efforts,\u201d Schlossberg said. \u201cThe Jewish Community Center is a keystone institution in the West End, providing everything from early childhood education and fitness to programs for active seniors and space for people to safely explore their faith traditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpper Macungie Township has carefully and methodically planned for expanded parks, recreation and public works services for its residents,\u201d Schlossberg continued. \u201cResidents from all of Lehigh County utilize these parks and the equipment for public works services will enable the township to be responsive to residents\u2019 needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis more than $2 million investment is a major win for our community and a direct result of strong collaboration at the state and local levels,\u201d former state Rep. Josh Siegel said. \u201cBy securing funding, we\u2019re able to move forward with multiple projects that will enhance recreational opportunities, strengthen connectivity, and improve quality of life for residents of all ages.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese projects reflect what our community has been asking for, and I was proud to work with both Reps.
