BERKS COUNTY, Pa.- Snow emergency declarations are coming in with many either in effect or taking effect in the hours ahead.<\/p>\n
Crews in some communities spent today cleaning up last weekend’s snow piles to make way for what’s to come.<\/p>\n
“For the past two days we’ve been prepping by posting streets for no parking,” said Fleetwood Roadmaster Neil Beehrly. “Cleaning out each side on the tighter streets so we have room to put this new snow that is coming.”<\/p>\n
He says now that crews cleared out old snow and stocked and checked their equipment, they’re about as ready as they can be for Sunday’s snowstorm.<\/p>\n
“Getting chains ready, hoping we don’t have to use them, but we’re getting that all set up,” Beehrly said.<\/p>\n
Fleetwood declared a snow emergency that will begin Saturday night.<\/p>\n
“We’re just asking the public again to have patience,” said Chris Young, Fleetwood Borough Manager. “Try to find available parking on a non-snow emergency route.”<\/p>\n
Don Pottiger, manager of Lower Alsace Township, says crews there also spent time removing old snow amidst a coordinated snow emergency declaration that mirrors those of Exeter Township, St. Lawrence, and Mt. Penn.<\/p>\n
“We have some very tight streets, so it’s good to get as many cars off of those so we can do a full clean,” said Pottiger. “The other thing too is it allows for police, fire and ambulance personnel to get to emergency situations a lot easier.”<\/p>\n
