Vehicle restrictions will take effect on local roads ahead of a major winter storm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Starting at midnight on Saturday, there will be a Tier 4 vehicle restriction on all Pennsylvania interstates, as well as the PA Turnpike and its extensions, PennDOT says.<\/p>\n

No commercial vehicles will be allowed on the impacted roads. The restriction also includes school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs\/motorhomes and passenger vehicles towing trailers (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.).<\/p>\n

Speed limits will be restricted to 45 mph for all vehicles on the affected roadways.<\/p>\n

These roads are also impacted by the restrictions:<\/p>\n

U.S. 15 from I-180 to the New York border.U.S. 22 from Route 66 to I-99.U.S. 22 from I-78 to the New Jersey border.U.S. 219 from U.S. 30 to U.S. 22.U.S. 220 from I-80 to I-180.U.S. 322 from Interstate 99 to I-81.Route 28 from I-279 to U.S. 422.The entire length of Route 33.<\/p>\n

Restrictions may change based on road conditions and reports from first responders, law enforcement and PennDOT.<\/p>\n

PennDOT will also close the I-279 and I-579 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes<\/a> in Pittsburgh and Ross Township for the storm\u2019s duration.<\/p>\n

Drivers are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. If you must travel, PennDOT says you should slow down, increase following distance, avoid sudden movements and allow extra time to get to your destination.<\/p>\n

PennDOT reports there were 8.329 crashes, 29 fatalities and 2,595 injuries on snowy, slushy, or ice-covered roadways last winter. Eleven of the people who died weren\u2019t wearing a seat belt, and 17 were in crashes where the driver was going too fast for the conditions and drove out of their lane.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur crews are hard at work preparing for this weekend\u2019s storm, and we\u2019ll be out in force throughout the event,\u201d PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pennsylvania Turnpike is always ready to support our customers during winter weather, and this upcoming storm is no exception,\u201d PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said.<\/p>\n
