\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHOW THE CITY PLANS TO BE PREPARED. FELICITY. WELL, YASMIN, WE\u2019RE HERE AT A SALT PILE IN BEECHVIEW AND A LOT OF IT IS ALREADY OUT ON THE ROADS RIGHT NOW. CREWS HAVE ALREADY STARTED PRE-TREATING AHEAD OF THE LATE NIGHT SNOWFALL, AND THEY SAY ONCE THE SNOW STARTS, EVEN MORE TRUCKS ARE GOING TO TAKE TO THE ROADS. ALLEGHENY COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS SAYS THEY ARE DEPLOYING 26 TRUCKS WITH SNOWPLOWS TO HANDLE THE 357 MILES OF COUNTY MAINTAINED ROADS. OUR DRIVERS WILL BE WORKING 12 HOUR SHIFTS, SO WE HAVE 24 HOUR COVERAGE TO ENSURE CONTINUOUS COVERAGE THROUGHOUT THE STORM. THE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT PRIORITIZE SPECIFIC ROADS, INSTEAD, DRIVERS FOLLOW STRATEGICALLY DESIGNED ROUTES TO MAXIMIZE SPEED AND EFFICIENCY. IN THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH, MAYOR COREY O\u2019CONNOR SAYS 35 TRUCKS ARE CURRENTLY PRETREATING ROADS UNTIL 10 P.M., 65 TRUCKS WILL BE ON THE ROADS OVERNIGHT UNTIL 6 A.M., AND THEN 85 TRUCKS WILL GO ON SHIFT FROM 6 A.M. TO 2 P.M. WE ARE HAVING OUR GARAGE STAY OPEN 24 OVER SEVEN THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS, SO IF THERE IS A MECHANICAL ISSUE, THERE\u2019S A PLACE WHERE THE TRUCK CAN GO. O\u2019CONNOR SAYS HE\u2019S RESTARTED THE COMMAND CENTER FROM THE CITY COUNTY BUILDING. IT\u2019S EQUIPPED WITH MONITORS, CAMERAS AND EXTRA STAFF WORKING THROUGH THE NIGHT. OUR PRIORITIES ARE, YOU KNOW, MAKING SURE OUR RESIDENTS ARE SAFE, OUR CREWS ARE SAFE, AND OUR FIRST RESPONDERS HAVE THE TOOLS THAT THEY NEED TO GET THROUGH THIS. THERE\u2019S STILL TIME TO PREPARE YOURSELF AND YOUR HOME BEFORE THE SNOW STARTS FALLING. PITTSBURGH\u2019S ACTION NEWS FOUR STOPPED BY EV HARDWARE IN BETHEL PARK, WHERE THE GENERAL MANAGER SAYS SUPPLIES HAVE BEEN FLYING OFF THE SHELVES SINCE THURSDAY. HE SAYS THE BIG TICKET ITEMS ARE SHOVELS, SALT HEATERS AND GENERATORS. WHEN BUYING SALT, HE SAYS ROCK SALT WON\u2019T DO THE TRICK FOR THESE CONDITIONS, YOU NEED A CALCIUM CHLORIDE OR MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE. BLEND. THOSE WORK DOWN TO MINUS TEN -20 DEGREES. ROCK SALT WILL GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF TRACTION, BUT IT WILL NOT MELT THE ICE. YOU REALLY WON\u2019T NEED THE SALT UNTIL IT\u2019S TIME, YOU KNOW, UNTIL IT SLOWS DOWN A LITTLE BIT TO GET THAT FINAL LAYER MELTED. AND SOME SAFETY RULES FOR SPACE HEATERS. THE BIG THING WITH SPACE HEATERS IS MAKE SURE YOU DON\u2019T USE AN EXTENSION CORD. PLUG THE HEATER DIRECTLY INTO YOUR OUTLET. YOU DON\u2019T WANT TO USE AN EXTENSION CORD WITH ANY SPACE HEATERS AND GENERATORS. THOSE GENERATORS SHOULD BE OUTDOORS. THEY SHOULD BE AT LEAST TEN FEET AWAY FROM THE STRUCTURE, AND YOU SHOULD BE TAKING A GOOD LOOK AT THAT EXHAUST TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NOT TRACKING BACK INTO YOUR HOME AGAIN.
