SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A man shot by police during a standoff outside a North Whitehall Township residence Saturday has died, according to the Lehigh County Coroner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Coroner Daniel Buglio did not release the identity of the 27-year-old but said he died as a result of gunshot injuries sustained in an officer-involved shooting.<\/p>\n
It happened about 2 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Rockdale Road in North Whitehall, state police said.<\/p>\n
According to state police, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team shot the man after the man fired a gun from his vehicle and pointed it at officers.<\/p>\n
Troopers were called around 11 a.m. Saturday for a disturbance involving a man with a gun, they said. When they arrived, they found him in the driver\u2019s seat of a car parked in a driveway.<\/p>\n
State police said he had a handgun and troopers tried to talk him into getting out of the vehicle without incident.<\/p>\n
He allegedly fired the gun more than once and pointed the gun at police several times.<\/p>\n
The man was treated at the scene and taken by Northern Valley EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Buglio said.<\/p>\n
State police said there were no injuries to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
An autopsy is set for Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe decedent has been identified and his family has been notified,\u201d Buglio said in a statement. \u201cHis identity will not be released at this time so the family may grieve their loss privately.”<\/p>\n
